The Clinic Cascais is one of the largest clinics in Portugal, and its design aims to provide a comfortable experience for patients. The interior spaces are carefully laid out to maximize the use of natural light, reducing the environmental footprint of the building. Most of the interior walls are made of glass, allowing ample natural light to flood the clinic. The main waiting room, overlooking the Serra de Sintra, offers patients a serene and calming atmosphere.
One of the unique features of the Clinic Cascais is the integration of the surrounding landscape into the design. The waiting areas are strategically placed to provide patients with a view of the Serra de Sintra, creating a sense of tranquility and connection to nature. Additionally, the recovery office is positioned in front of a window that offers a breathtaking view of the Palacio da Pena, one of Portugal's most iconic palaces.
The materiality of the clinic plays a crucial role in its design. The combination of concrete and white walls, along with suspended lighting, creates a harmonious and modern aesthetic. Glass, marble, and concrete are the primary materials used in the realization of the design, adding to the clinic's sleek and contemporary feel.
The Clinic Cascais was a project that required careful attention to detail and creative problem-solving. One of the challenges faced by the design team was ensuring that all dental offices received ample sunlight. By using transparent glass for the separation of dental offices and circulation areas, natural light was able to penetrate the interior, reducing the need for artificial lighting.
The project began in 2019 and was completed in 2020. Throughout the design process, the team at Sabrab drew from their extensive research and previous award-winning projects. The Clinic Cascais reflects the team's commitment to creating innovative and practical designs that meet the highest standards of quality and functionality.
The Clinic Cascais, designed by Sabrab - Miguel Barbas, has been recognized for its excellence in design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate a high level of creativity, practicality, and innovation, while also meeting professional and industrial requirements.
With its unique blend of comfort, functionality, and visual appeal, the Clinic Cascais is a testament to the power of thoughtful and innovative design in the healthcare space.
